Making Christmas about giving always seems to me like a clever marketing ploy for us to buy more stuff...
so this year I am celebrating receiving:
these days I receive: a community of beautiful women who see the dark circles under my eyes and offer help, encouragement, and solidarity
these days I receive: the extra rest, as my husband lets me sleep in, when he could be working
these days I receive: light in darkness, as we decorate our houses with strings of light and candles
these days I receive: the joy of children's laughter, and wonder of discovery
and as the week unfolds I hope you too will receive:
hugs from family and friends near and far
the love that is behind every gift
the grace that is in every unmet expectation
and the promise: that which is Common will become Sacred because of the Child born in a barn...Emmanuel... God with us...
